Silom

The heart of Bangkok's financial district means that it isn’t the most inspiring part of Bangkok but wondering the streets you will still find plenty of character around. Setting up base near Saphan Takasin means you have easy access to the BTS Skytrain and the Chao Phraya River boats which enables you to get the rest of the city easily. The Si Lom station area has connections to the BTS and MRT lines as well as being next to Lumphini Park, Bangkok’s favourite park. Both areas have some quality accommodation. The main Silom Road running through is famous for its precious stones dealers and jewellers, the place for rubies (if you know what you're doing!). Halfway along you can’t miss the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, an intense kaleidoscope of bright colours and sculptures in the building walls. The area has both ends of the spectrum in terms of nightlife, being home to the infamous Patpong red light district as well as to several of Bangkok’s tallest swish skyscraper rooftop bars.
