East Coast Guide
Ao Talong (northeast) Ao Talong isn’t really a beach you would head out for. Scattered around the area are the wooden houses and sheds one of the original Ko Mak communities. Ao Taan (northeast) The beach is a much courser sand and rocky in places. There are just two resorts here, Koh Mak Green View and Cinnamon Art Resort. Laem Son (northeast) A beautiful secluded beach with beautiful waters and no development besides a single shack serving delicious seafood and a half finished pier. It looks out on to Ko Kradat which a local may offer to take you out on their boat for around 400B. There is a 100B fee to go on the island which has a population of around 20 people farming and also a herd of deer!? Ao Pai (east) There’s just a single resort and a small village area nearby. Baan Lang (southeast) A course sand bay with three high-end resorts. Not a beach to make a trip to unless staying here. Ao Nid Bay (south east) The main pier is situated here, and there isn’t much beach to speak of. It's home to the Smile Koh Mak cooking school (see separate highlight), along with Koh Mak Steakhouse a couple of shops and restaurants, not a touristy area. There is a small temple at the bottom end near the pier and also a small museum with some history of the island.
