Diving & Snorkelling

There are two good diving outfits on Ko Mak, and the island has the great bonus of being close to the region’s best diving area, Koh Rang Marine Park. This cuts down on the time and fuel to get there meaning prices to dive there can be kept lower than at neighbouring islands. The park area is also perfect for snorkelling. In 2012 nine elephant statues were put on the seabed near the island of Rayang Yai, just off the southwestern shore of Koh Mak. They are at a depth of around 7 metres and they vary in size, with the largest one an impressive 2.5m tall. Quite a unique sight to see while diving! If you like a good wreck dive, the dive boats can head out to the recently sunk (deliberately) HTMS Chang. Here are the rough costs of the popular dive and snorkelling options available (varies by company): Discover Scuba Diving (2 dives) – 3,500 Snorkelling – 750B Open Water – 13,500B Advanced Open Water – 12,500B 2 fun dives – 2,400B 4 fun dives – 4,400B There is a 200/100B (adult/child) fee for visiting Koh Rang.
