Fishing

One of the easiest ways to go fishing in Koh Phangan is to find a good spot off the rocks on the coast and try your luck. Check with your guesthouse, or ask the locals where the good fishing spots are. Be careful to avoid the waters around Koh Ma, where fishing is prohibited, and please take good care of the coral. Many of you will prefer to fish offshore, and depending on what you want, your guesthouse can probably organise a short trip on a longtail boat with hand lines supplied for fishing. But if you want something a little more adventurous, you may need to book through an agent. A variety of boat fishing trips are available, including daytime, nighttime, or a trip out to Ang Thong Marine Park, where you can fish around the islands. If you want to do something a bit different, you can arrange to go out with one of the night squid fishing boats from Chaloklum pier in the north of the island. Just head up to Chaloklum village and enquire at the pier. Phangan Funny Tour (tel: +66 77445905) and Attack Big Game Fishing (tel: +66 945783132 & www.attackfishingtour.com) both organise a range of day and night fishing trips; and as the name suggests, Attack also organise longer duration big game fishing trips. Prices start from 1200B for a day or night of fishing, with higher prices for trips to Ang Thong Marine Park, and daily rates of 1200B-1900B for multi-day Big Game fishing, (full board). Don't forget to cover your head and body, and take plenty of water with you. If you are fishing off the rocks, wear suitable footwear.
