Phsar Thmei (Central Market)

Housed in a yellow art-deco building, with its separate four wings meeting at the central dome, it makes an unusual sight in central Phnom Penh. The stalls under the central dome mainly sell jewellery, fake designer sunglasses and watches. The surrounding wings contain everything from white goods to flowers and include a wet market. Just outside they sell tourist t-shirts and copied books. The prices here are notoriously inflated and regardless of your haggling skills, you will probably end up paying more than at other markets (see Russian Market). It is however less hectic and relatively cool inside so is nice to wander around. It's good to stroll through to look rather than shop, especially if it's baking hot outside.
