Ko Samet Beaches
There are many beaches along the east coast of the island and one on the west with three top-end resorts. They each have their own character and its worth exploring to take a look at least at a few. Many are very close together and can easily be done on foot. Here is a brief rundown of the beaches starting from the north and heading south: Ao Noi Na Just to the west of the pier is a superb wide stretch of sand in front of a single resort. Which despite what they might tell you isn’t a private beach. Laem Yai A predominantly rocky area with a tiny bit of beach in front of the Larissa Resort. It’s good if you want to see the sunrise within close walking distance of Samet Village and Haad Sai Kaew. Haad Sai Kaew The whitest, biggest stretch of beach and the predictably the busiest. It's where you can find a hive of restaurants & resorts. The sea is crammed with jet-skis and speedboats which makes swimming dangerous outside the small roped off areas in front of some resorts. It does have some good BBQs and parties at night. It’s also close to Samet Village which is the best place to find the cheapest budget accommodation and eats. Ao Hin Khok A beautiful white sand beach which has a traditional backpacker vibe still in easy distance to Haad Sai Kaew. Home of the backpacker Naga Bungalows & Bar, a bit of a dump accommodation wise but has a lively social bucket bar. Ao Phai One for the party backpackers. A small beach is lined with loungers and has pumping parties at the Silversand Resort. Decent budget accommodation can be found at Ao Pai Huts. Ao Phrao The only beach on the west side has some beautiful white sand and has a few high-end resorts. The sea is virtually boat free and also quite shallow until a way out. A perfect beach for a sundowner. Ao Phutsa (Ao Tubtim) A quiet wide sandy beach for those looking for a much more relaxed atmosphere, without having to venture too far from the town. Ao Nuan A small secluded beach with grainy sand and a bit of a rocky entry into the sea. Ao Nuan Bungalows is one of the best places on the island to relax. Ao Wong Duean The island’s second largest beach is a family friendly place where you can get to swim in the sea with not too many speedboats around. Ao Sang Thian A thin stretch of beach peppered with rocks. A handful of very chilled flashpacker resorts. Ao Lung Dum A small yellow sand beach offering some great swimming and a classic backpacker beach vibe. Apache Bungalows are backed onto the beach and is a classic backpacker vibe, recommended! Ao Wai A stunning white sand beach in beautiful boat free water which is great to snorkel in or kayak around. A super quiet beach with only the Samet Ville Resort present.
