Borders with Laos
Border 1 - Don Kralor (Cambodia) / Voem Kham (Laos) Situated about an hour north of Stung Treng is the only land crossing between Cambodia and Laos, it is pretty straight forward. You can get single ticket minibus services from various locations in Cambodia, which often change to another bus in Stung Treng, before then taking you over the border. You may then need to change bus again before heading to 4000 islands or Pakse. Sorya also run a bus service from Phnom Penh to Pakse (Laos) via Kratie, Stung Treng and 4000 Islands. You can get a visa on arrival at the Laos border and the cost depends on nationality. It's US$35 for UK, USA and most of the EU, US$30 for Australia and US$42 for Canada. You need one passport photo. The border is open 8:00am-5:00pm but they often charge a US$1 'overtime fee' after 4pm. Your tour bus may stop at a restaurant 100 metres before the border, give you the forms to fill in and add an extra US$5 to the visa price, claiming the $5 is because you are late or some other untruth. You can just walk down to the border and do it yourself, or just pay the US$5 if you don't want the potential hassle. Entering Cambodia its US$30 plus 2 passport photos required unless you already have an e-Visa.
