Mae Nam Chinese Temple

Located on the peaceful and laid-back Maenam beach, about 50 metres from the pier, this small, very colourful temple is well worth an hour or so of your time. The intricate architecture and bedazzling artwork are really amazing, and the colours are stunning. If you haven't seen one of these highly ornate Chinese-style Buddhist temples before, this is a good example of its kind. They are built by the local Thai-Chinese communities from donations made by wealthy Thai-Chinese families, seeking to make (or buy?) merit for their next life… This small temple comes into its own at Chinese New Year when it becomes the centre of festivals and much activity. Open: During daylight hours and entrance is free.
