Isabela

Why Go

Home to the single beautifully quiet port village of Puerto Villamil, with its sand roads, backed straight onto six kilometres of lush beach coastline. It's the island Galapagos locals go to on their vacation! It's a great place to see famous Galapagos wildlife such as blue-footed boobies, Galapagos penguins (so cute!), sharks, mantas, rays, seahorses... all of which can be seen on our favourite of all the Galapagos tours - Los Tuneles. Just a short walk from the village you can see pink flamingos, while on a bicycle ride to the Wall of Tears, you can see giant tortoises in the wild. And of course, no Galapagos island would feel complete without sea lions, which love to hang around the port and local snorkelling spot. If you love a good hike and superb views, treks to the active volcanoes of Sierra Negra and Volcan Chico are here for you. And after all of this, you can get a perfect sundowner drink on the beach as the sunsets!

Why Not

There's no international airport, so to get here you need to fly to Santa Cruz (Baltra) or San Cristobal, then get a boat (2hrs+) or local flight - which means you need more time. If you're coming to the Galapagos to dive, there's only the single dive site of Isla Tortuga from Isabela - although it is a good one!
