Wat Phnom

The Wat, built on a hilltop by a wealthy Khmer lady called Penh in 1372 and is where the city takes its name. Pay your US$1 before ascending the naga guarded steps up to the wat and gardens. The temple itself is nothing too spectacular but the surrounding gardens give a great view of the city are a good way to escape the hustle and bustle. You will see locals bringing offerings and preying. If you can, it's worth coming on a holy day / public holiday to see the place alive with worshippers.
